10 Craziest Cover Versions of Nintendo Music

Thursday March 26, 2009 10:01 AM

When you grow up playing certain video games, you can’t really help yourself – the music is just inside you – forever. And sometimes it has to come out. When it does, we’re here to archive it – also forever.

10. Super Mario on a Beat-Boxing Flute (Greg Patillo of Project)

Because everything sounds better on a beat-boxing flute, right?

9. Zelda Ocarina (Dockjazz4)

“Hey baby, I’m a pensive, sensitive youth. Join me on the grass and I’ll serenade you on my ocarina with the melodies of Hyrule.”

8. Legend of Zelda on Tesla Coils (Trammell)

The lightning makes it meaningful.

7. Super Mario Bass Guitar (Jean Baudin)

Let’s face it – this song is really not done justice if played on anything less than 11 strings.

6. Tetris on the Flute (Shayla)

Insert “band camp” joke here.

5. Super Mario on his Two Guitars (Zack Kim)

Another testament to the complexity of Mario’s theme. We’re wondering why this guy wimped out and didn’t use 11 guitars.

4. Super Mario Banjo (zanorg)

Kermit the Frog used his banjo to play “Rainbow Connection,” a song about dreaming, longing, and happiness. “Zanorg” uses his banjo to play the theme from Super Mario Bros., a song about mushrooms, pipes, and a move known on the street as “saving the princess.”

3. Costumed Guitar Mario (EduMetal90)

Chicks dig the costume.

2. TIE – Legend of Zelda AND Super Mario on Theremin (Randy George)

Play both of these videos simultaneously, and by the time they’re over, you will suddenly, completely understand Scientology, Lost, quantum dynamics, and aboslutely nothing else.

1. Mario’s Aquatic Level on the Recorder (jcteck)

We dig the hat, dude – it really helps build the mystique.
