This classic 1983 B-movie has everything teen sex comedies of the ’80s demand:
–Copious female nudity;
–Gratuitous shots of teens playing Defender and Pole Position;
–A lead actor whose first name is Leif;
–A fat guy and nerd duo;
–A game of “Strip Pac-Man;”
–And the always resonant theme of we’ve-gotta-save-the-arcade (in other movies, it could be a hot dog stand, a tanning salon, a beach volleyball tournament, or a bikini car wash) from the most uptight man in town.
Joysticks is especially known for its now-legendary theme song, “Totally Awesome Video Games,” as heard in the intro (below), with inspiring lyrics like:
“Here they come, there they go /
Humanoids, UFOs /
All day, all night /
Video to the max!”
We couldn’t decide which was better – the intro (above) or the trailer (below), but we did know one thing for sure: Joysticks is long overdue for induction to The Video Game Comedy Hall of Fame.
