Morning Reading: "Sonic The Hedgehog Bible" – Never Before Revealed Secret Origins

Thursday April 16, 2009 6:49 AM

An historic text has been unearthed. It’s the Sonic The Hedgehog Bible, from the year 1991 A.D.

The Sonic Bible is an internal document from Sega that explains the origins and powers of the heroic hedgehog, and the whole thing was recently scanned and posted on the Sonic Retro Message Board.

Before you wade into the entire, extensive Book of Sonic, we recommend reading this recap from Game Set Watch. Here’s a sample passage:

The Bible, which went through several drafts, reads amazingly like fan fiction. One version has Sonny “Sonic” Hedgehog growing up in Hardly, Nebraska, where he lives with his family under a hedge beside a burger joint and plays pranks at a local bowling alley. A track coach takes notice of Sonic’s speed and convinces him to join Hardly’s track team.

Another draft has Sonic learning all his abilities from forest friends, picking up speed from Johnny Lightfoot the rabbit, and developing his Super Sonic Spin Attack with Chirps the chicken.

Worship this mighty hedgehog, yest ye face judgment by the evil Chaos Emeralds. Non-believers: consider yourselves warned.
