Lovable Nerd Steve Wiebe Sets Donkey Kong Jr. World Record, On Quest To Reclaim "King Of Kong" Title

Tuesday April 28, 2009 4:04 PM

It’s official. Steve Wiebe, the heart-tugging man-child who many believe to be the true “King of Kong,” claimed a new record this weekend, scoring the highest score ever on Donkey Kong Jr.: 1,139,800 (which is only 1,139,600 more than we’ve gotten).

The DKJ record used to be held by King of Kong arch-villain Billy Mitchell, but was topped last year by a guy named Ike Hall, who has now humbly handed his crown to America’s favorite, Steve.

“This is a profound performance,” Twin Galaxies Arcade founder Walter Day announced in what could be the most least profound use of the word profound ever.

Wiebe will next try to reclaim his Donkey Kong record in a live attempt at the E3 convention in June. G4 will broadcast the event, which to us nerds is what we assume the Super Bowl must be like for boring people.
