Finally, proof that video games save lives.
Researchers from the the Mayo Clinic in Florida have made a major breakthrough in the battle against Alzheimer’s disease, and a key player is the legendary yellow chomper himself, Pac-Man.
We don’t fully understand all the science and “enzymes” discussed in this article from the Alzheimer’s Research Trust, but we’ve chosen to assume that Pac-Man either discovered a cure, or playing Pac-Man is the cure.
OK, wait, we re-read it, and we’ve figured out the real story, which is actually kind of cool. Turns out there’s a molecule that’s shaped like Pac-Man and which literally gobbles up proteins associated with Alzheimer’s. The researchers, who discovered how to speed up the gobbling molecule and thus slow the spread of the disease, have nicknamed it “The Pac-Man Enzyme.”
So now we’ve got little Pac-Men in our bodies fighting disease. We can only hope that Mario will soon be taking on body odor, or Sonic the Hedgehog proves instrumental in solving erectile dysfunction. It could happen – and God willing, it will.
