Stores are sending some seriously mixed messages these days when it comes to selling video game consoles.
Case #1: In Poland, as you can clearly see in the picture above, they are trying to unload PS3s by bundling them with free Bibles (it’s the Pismo Swiete on the right). According to Gizmodo, the system also comes with three things gamers might actually want: Gran Turismo Prologue, Ridge Racer 7, and Ratchet & Clank. Unfortunately, The Bible is not play-able.
Case #2: Closer to home, in Florida, a Wal-Mart was caught selling a Nintendo DS box full of nothing but rocks and a Chinese newspaper. When the angry customer – a mother who thought she was buying a DS for her son’s birthday – returned the item, Wal-Mart told her to take it up with Nintendo. It was, as CrunchGear put it, “as if Nintendo has an assembly line full of rocks being shoved into DS boxes.”
Thanks to the mom’s persistence, it was learned the DS had been previously purchased and returned twice – both times, Wal-Mart put the box of rocks back out on the floor for sale. Good job, Wal-Mart. Way to go, jackholes.
So the bottom line is, when you buy a console these days, choose wisely – you never know what you might get. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
Now, if they would only bundle the PS3 with the rocks, then we might be onto something…
