After we posted yesterday’s totally bizarre Brazilian Mario adventure, we got to thinking – what is it about this suave, portly plumber that has inspired so many awesome videos?
The legendary Nintendo icon has made his home country of Italy proud by representing all we could ever hope for in a hero: jumping, running, go-kart racing, Pricess-saving, hat-loving, and of course, proper mustache maintenance.
(For shame, Luigi – you should learn something from your brother and take better care of your ’stache.)
No matter what your reason is for believing Mario to be super, we can all agree that the more you know him, the more you love him – and the more you’ll want to watch the 20 Funniest Super Mario Videos.

What better way to represent the epic struggle Mario had with a giant ape than with puppets? (Full disclosure: this comes from an MTV-Italy series – hence the subtitles – produced by Scott Chernoff, the boss of Level One Boss. So sue us.)

We like how the title of this one on YouTube has the word parody clearly displayed, as though we might somehow mistake it for the real thing.
16. Mario Kart: The Rap
The rhymes are surprisingly clever – “got the blockin’ shells behind my kart, G / Stoppin’ reds like I was Joe McCarthy” – and feature references to everyone from Janis Joplin to Carlton from Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Nicely done, boys.

We may never know what this song is about, other than Mario. But then again, isn’t that enough?
14. Super Tonio Bros. Fail
We swear this happened to us one night after playing NES for 18 hours straight.
13. Mario Lego Stop Motion
Is there anything more adorable than stop motion Lego? OK, so maybe babies and kittens, but other than that – no.

8-bit Mario brought to life on the real-life mean streets of Chicago. We always knew this would happen.

Mario and the Princess never really had time to talk at the end of the game. That’s probably a good thing, because this is likely what would have happened.
