When we’re not too busy collecting heart pieces across Hyrule Field or injecting plasmids into our wrists so we can fight little girls underwater, we like to spend our time here at Level One Boss watching America’s most seasoned brand of entertainment: television commercials.
But like you, we get enough of the crappy ones shoved down our throat while we’re actually watching TV. Luckily, we’ve taken time out of our busy gaming schedule to bring you the funniest commercials video game history has to offer – you can thank us later.
10. A Link to the Past – Dance Party
Hey, if you did that much dungeon crawling, wouldn’t you want a dance break? Even Ganondorf can’t resist Link’s sweet, 16-bit moves!
9. Ratchet & Clank – Shrink Ray
Yeah, there’s a reason shrink rays are better in idea form than in practice
8. Reno 911! and The State present: Game Boy!
Ever wonder what David Wain, Kerri Kenney, Ben Garant, Michael Showalter and Michael Ian Black of Stella/Reno911!/The State fame did back before they were famous comedians? They made Game Boys talk for money, and we loved it.
7. Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
We wish every workplace was this Solid Snake-able, and that every boss was that cartoonishly angry.
6. Legend of Zelda Rap
Nerdcore before nerdcore even existed. “Yeah, go Link! Get some!”
5. Pikmin…in the Real World
In our opinion, this is probably the least useful thing you could do with a swarm of tiny human slaves.
4. Nintendo 64 Crossdressing
Really, Nintendo? Urging kids to blackmail their family to buy them video games? Next stop, ransom notes and car-bomb threats for an unopened copy of Super Mario Galaxy 2!
3. Mr. T + World of Warcraft = Awesome
Sure, Mr. T’s new game envisions him as a spandex-clad superhero who fights Nazis, but does it involve him majestically riding an oversized white tiger? We didn’t think so. Let your voice ring clear, give us Mr. T riding super-animals or give us death!
2. The Simpsons Video Game
It’s like watching a good episode of The Simpsons again! Only…shorter.
1. Super Smash Bros. 64 – “Happy Together”
Yep, this gem is what introduced the world to one of the best video game franchises ever created. There’s a reason it’s at the top of our list, and that’s because it has classic written all over it. Nintendo’s biggest characters duking it out in oversized Disneyland-esque costumes set to a 1960s music hit: what’s not to love?
