
So it’s come to this. Hollywood is officially out of ideas.
Variety and The Hollywood Reporter announced that Universal won a bidding war for the rights to the classic 1979 arcade game Asteroids.
Um… WTF?
Now, don’t get us wrong. We were huge fans of Asteroids back in the day and still love it. But a bidding war? There’s no story – there’s barely even an asteroid. It’s all just outlines of asteroids.
What was there to bid on? Hmm, a spaceship against asteroids… sort of like the chase scene in The Empire Strikes Back, or Armageddon 2… which does not sound promising. Were they just bidding on the word “Asteroids?” The rest is up to Race to Witch Mountain (!) writer Matt Lopez and Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
