Solar Fox Commercial Blends Hot Trends Of 1980s To Sell Atari Game Nobody Wanted

Friday July 31, 2009 1:46 PM

To call today’s Classic Video Game Replay a Classic game is kind of a stretch – because if there’s one thing CBS should never have been doing, it was making video games.

But make them they did, and this hilarious commercial for Solar Fox doesn’t help their case much. It turns two of the 1980s’ hottest trends – outer space and “Valley Girls” – into one awkward combination, as some sort of space pilot must contend with the most annoying girl ever. Gee, looks like a great game.

The end of the commercial says the game is for the Atari 2600, but that versions for ColecoVision, Intellivision, and the next-gen Atari 5200 will be “available soon.”

Hmm, whether or not those goals were ever actually met (hint: they weren’t), at least this Solar Fox commercial succeeded in becoming today’s Classic Video Game Replay.
